M 1: Managing Style Differences
The first course in the MANAGE sub-program.
The Conflict Resolution Skills for Leaders program is comprised of three sub-programs:
- PREVENT
- MANAGE
- RESOLVE
This course is about building self-awareness (and awareness of the other) and thereby learning how to better leverage style differences towards the increase of team cohesion, complementarity and productivity.
Key Objectives and Outcomes:
- Achieve understanding of your dominant communication, work and leadership style(s) including the strengths and excesses associated with your typical way of doing business
- Explore concepts and tools for engaging others effectively, including when style challenges create part of the challenge
- Expand your overall leadership repertoire and ability to value and draw on different approaches to the same problems
- Walk away with the increase practical know-how you need to address real-world dile
What is Included
Each training module in this course consists of an engaging video presentation that overviews a key concept or skill. Each video has an accompanying PDF resource page for reflection. All PDFs can be downloaded and printed.
The course is capped off with a "Call to Action" video that challenges you to immediately apply and practice these new concepts and skills.

Meet course instructor, Dave Dyck
David Dyck, MA, CMed is a conflict resolution practitioner with over 30 years of experience as a facilitator, trainer, mediator, consultant, and academic instructor. He holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees in conflict resolution. He has presented courses across Canada as well as in the United States and Europe.
Dave is an energetic and dynamic workshop leader who combines humour, storytelling, and case studies to spark your imagination, and equip you with practical models and skills for addressing the real-world dilemmas you face.
As a mediator, Dave specializes in workplace conflict, providing intervention and support services to a wide range of clients in the private, public, business, health care, faith-based, and education sectors. He helps organizational leaders and their staff talk about difficult issues, manage differences, discover solutions, and leverage the power of positive conflict to build relationships.
